NaNaNaNa NaNaNaNa- ROX-Y!

Neepawa Has a Great Community Run Theatre!

By Jim | July 11, 2019 at 12:05am

Okay, full disclosure. Our dog is named Roxy. So we HAD to take a picture of her in front of this theatre.

Especially since it was playing "A Dog's Journey". We also pretty much HAD to at least "like" this theatre. Luckily, we LOVED it!

Why?

Well, you know how radio and TV commercials for businesses say, “It’s our people” and you roll your eyes because EVERY business says that?

At the Roxy, it REALLY IS THEIR PEOPLE! Because pretty much nobody is being paid to be there!

Read on friend!

Little Cinema on the Prairie (City)

Prairie City Cinema – Portage La Prairie, Manitoba!

By Jim | September 3, 2018 at 3:11pm

The family owned business has changed a LOT over the years. It was once a 500 seat stand alone theatre – then it became three theatres, and then five, and since 2013 or so FIVE upgraded and renovated theatres! The owner Dave, gave mad props to his wife, stating that the reason he loves running these theatres is 1) because she is doing it with him, and 2) because she’s come up with some amazing ideas to make the business more interesting. One example was the ladies nights she started.

Yes, we saw a Flick at Flicks

The Flicks Cinema - Stonewall, Manitoba

By Jim | August 20, 2018 at 10:11pm

It may not be the most ornate theatre in the world, but it gets the job done! They spent money on the things that really matter to movie-goers, as in the 7.1 surround sound and the digital picture, and the nice seats.  Inside, you'll find hand made notices on the walls, I guess made because they needed to be made. Anyway, quit doddling - and come see a FLICK's FLICK!

Why it’s Awesome:

It’s another theatre with a cool history!  It was built in 1958 and had a few owners before Derek and Marla took it over around five years ago. At one point, there were two cinemas and a drive-in Theatre in Swan River and this one remains.

Why it’s Awesome:

Amazing History!  You can read this in a bunch of other places, but the internet says this is a 4th generation theatre! (We met the nephew of the current owner, so that makes it 5th generation maybe?) Same family running the place since 1929! This is one of the oldest surviving movie theatres in CANADA! Wait till you see INSIDE!!!!

Why it’s Awesome:

This cool sign!  “Capitol Theatre” has some heritage here that the name “Landmark 9” can’t beat. It’s smart of them not to mess with that.

Looks great at night too!

Hey Garry! Roomy Theatre you got there!

The Garry Theatre - in Selkirk, Manitoba!

By Jim | July 16, 2018 at 8:32pm

Why this theatre is Awesome:

Look at this aisle space! Are you kidding me!? I could cartwheel in-between these rows! Well, it’s possible. Let’s be clear. No cartwheeling took place, but plenty of man and woman-spreading did…because we could! (Lora says that sounds gross) Over 500 seats!
